Question 1

What is an auto-reply text message?

Accepted Answer

An auto-reply text message is an automated response sent when you can't personally respond to incoming texts. Businesses use them for after-hours messages, vacation notices, and busy periods to keep customers informed.

Question 2

How do I set up auto-reply text messages on my phone?

Accepted Answer

On iPhone, use the Focus mode or Driving mode settings. On Android, use apps like SMS Auto Reply or your carrier's business messaging tools. Many business phone systems also have built-in auto-reply features.

Question 3

What should I include in an out of office text message?

Accepted Answer

A good out-of-office text should include: when you'll be back, an alternative contact for urgent matters, and a brief friendly note. Keep it short — text messages should be concise.

Question 4

Can I use different auto-replies for different times of day?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Most business messaging platforms let you set different auto-replies for after hours, weekends, and holidays. This ensures customers always get a relevant response.

Question 5

What about the customers who call instead of text?

Accepted Answer

An auto-reply only fires when someone texts you — but most missed leads are phone calls, and a caller who reaches your voicemail never sees your auto-text at all. Roughly 80% of callers won't leave a voicemail; they just hang up and dial the next business. That's the gap an auto-reply can't cover. An AI receptionist answers those calls live 24/7, captures the caller's name, number, and reason, and texts you the details — so the callers your auto-reply never reaches don't quietly become someone else's customers.
